Taylor ‘Gunny’ Faulker Memorial Scholarship

The Taylor ‘Gunny’ Faulkner Memorial Scholarship for Arts and Science, was created to Honor the Life and Times of Gunnery Sergeant, Taylor ‘Gunny’ Faulkner, of the Legendary Montford Point Marines,

America’s 1st African-American Marine Corp. (circa 1942), located at Montford Point, North Carolina - a segregated Camp created outside of Marine Camp Lejune. ‘Gunny’ Faulkner had to fight the enemy at home, and abroad. ‘Gunny’ Faulkner came up through the ranks and was Prouder and more Honored of not only the rank he achieved – but having survived as being a Montford Point Marine.

Not only was ‘Gunny’ a Proud Montford Point Marine, but also a revered member of Tom Powell Post #77 - the United States oldest,

African-American veteran’s Post, of the largest veteran’s organization in the U.S. - the American Legion (circa 1919).

‘Gunny’ Faulkner was also the author and creator of Missouri’s 1st African-American Honor Guard, who have not only performed more than 500 services at Jefferson Barracks and throughout the Region – but have also performed for the Mayor’s Office; Soldiers Memorial; Missouri History Museum; Greenwood and Bellefontaine Cemeteries; Fair U-City, and a list of others – and Awards

Outside of farming, ‘Gunny’ loved nothing more than having the opportunity to wear his Marine, Dress Blues.

‘Gunny’ lived to the ripe old age of 97-years old; remaining active in Tom Powell Post #77 and Montford Point Marine Association until his life’s end.

We, the Officers and Members of Tom Powell Post #77, created this scholarship for our beloved Taylor ‘Gunny’ Faulkner for his dedication to God, Country, Tom Powell Post #77 of the American Legion, the Montford Point Marine Association – and Gunny’s Love and Hope for America’s Youth.
